COMICS IN RUSSIA
We are organizing a "Comics in Russia" panel at AAASS in November. Any and all aspects (formal, historical, ideological, semiotic, cultural) of this emerging medium and its reception in Russia are fair game.     The Iowa Journal of Communication announces a 2005 special issue on internet communication, guest edited by Mark Johns. Manuscripts should be received no later than January 30, 2005.

    The European Commission is seeking proposals for support for the abolition of the death penalty in NIS, Asia, Africa and Latin America (other geographical areas can be included if the proposal has a global perspective) with financial assistance from the European Initiative for Democracy and Human Rights programme of the European Communities. The full Guidelines for Applicants are available for consultation at “European Commission, EuropeAid Unit F6, 54 Rue Joseph II, office 01/140, 1049 Brussels, Belgium” and on the following Internet site:
    http://europa.eu.int/comm/europeaid/cgi/frame12.pl.
    The deadline for submission of the preliminary proposals is 13.10.2004, 16:00 Brussels time.
