INFORMATION LETTER
Dear Colleague:
The Coordination Committee of the Russian Communication Association (RCA) invites communication scholars, professionals, and students to participate in the RCA programs and activities. The RCA was organized in the year 2000 with the primary goal of promoting communication research, education, and its practical social application in Russia. This specific orientation is important. Today's Russia particularly needs help from its communication scholars, since our numerous problems are often the result of communication incompetence or lack of desire to communicate constructively with others. We believe that active participation of those professionals who share the aims and ideas of RCA will considerably contribute to solving these social problems.
In addition to pursuing its national goals, the RCA intends to develop collaboration with various international professional organizations, such as the National Communication Association (USA), International Communication Association (USA), International Pragmatics Association (Belgium), etc. These organizations have considerable professional experience, and our collaboration will benefit us all.
We welcome participation of all professionals and students who are involved in communication-related disciplines. The scope of our activities can include - but is not limited to:
- Communication competence
- Interpersonal communication
- Communication in small groups
- Mass communication
- Business and professional communication
- Intercultural and international communication
- Communication in political and other discourses
- Communicative aspects of public relations
- Communication and conflict resolution
- Computer-mediated communication
- Technical Communication
- Communicative aspects of mass media
- Communicative aspects of psycho-therapy
- Producing and interpreting messages
- Semantics and pragmatics of discourse
- Linguistic and psychological parameters of communicants
- Theoretical and applied aspects of persuasion and argumentation
The RCA's major activities include:
- Exchanging research and professional information with RCA members and with our international colleagues through the Internet (e-mail, mailing list, WWW);
- Developing and expanding communication curricula and syllabi in the system of higher and secondary education in Russia;
- Organizing professional seminars and conferences in communication research and communication education;
- Organizing publications of various communication materials (including electronic).
